Wireless Information

Equipment
In order to deliver wireless service to a home or business, the customer must have a compact subscriber module (SM) affixed somewhere on the premises, with an Ethernet cable running from the subscriber module to the customer's computer.

2.4 GHz Subscriber Module   2.4 GHz Subscriber Module

In the event that the customer does not have direct line of sight to the access point or the signal strength is compromised due to the customer's distance from the access point, a 900 MHz subscriber module or reflector dish may be required to deliver Xplornet's wireless service.

Installation

Xpress Installation
After locating a suitable line of sight to the Access Point the authorized Xplornet Wireless installer will mount the subscriber module to the home or building using the standard "L" shaped mounting bracket. The installer will run one pre-terminated CAT5 outdoor cable, up to 75 feet, from the base of the subscriber module to the point of entry into the home or building. In addition, the installer will supply and install a surge suppressor, preferably on the exterior of the home or building, which will then be properly grounded according to local regulations. The installer will ensure proper sealing of all exterior holes and use drip loops on all exterior cables. Inside, the installer will run up to 100 feet of CAT5E cable from the surge suppressor to the computer's location in the home or building. Typically a small hole (1/2 inch diameter) is required to be drilled in the outside of the wall to allow entrance of the cable. Next the installer will hookup a 24 VDC Adapter and AC Power Adapter. Finally, the installer will test the system using their own laptop one last time to ensure the signal strength is working at its expected threshold and Internet browsing is functioning.

Enhanced Installation
Extra charges may apply for any installation work that falls outside the scope of an Xpress installation. This includes, but is not limited to: setting up a PC, router or other Local Area Network (LAN) equipment; multiple runs of CAT5E cable within the home or building; running cables in excess of the two provided (Interior - 100 feet, Exterior - 75 feet); mounting the subscriber module on excessive heights (e.g. greater than standard one-storey roof); setting up accounts on e-mail client programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, etc; PC clean up, which includes quarantining and/or removing viruses and spy ware; installing NIC cards; installing pop-up tower or tri-pod & pole to improve line of sight; and installation of a reflector dish.
